It’s France versus Argentina in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar on Sunday.
After the French overcame Morocco 2 – 0 in a hard-fought victory on Wednesday night, all eyes are on the mouth-watering clash against Argentina that will pit Lionel Messi against Kylian Mbappe.
In the final on Sunday teammates at PSG, Messi, and Mbappe, will be at opposite ends.
Both players are tied on five goals each.
Although Mbappe didn’t score in Wednesday’s semifinal against the North Africans, his speed was a constant threat.
Theo Hernandez’s goal for France in the 5th minute drew a spirited response from Morocco, cheered on by about 50 000 fans in the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
The north Africans mounted wave after wave of attacks but they could not find the equaliser.
French defenders cleared the ball off the goal line and somehow survived the relentless onslaught.
France’s substitute Randal Kolo Muani, who came on for Ousmane Dembélé near the end sealed the game when he latched on a Mbappe deflected shot to poke the ball past Morocco’s keeper Yassine “Bono” Bounou.
Morocco will now take on Croatia for the bronze medal.
