COSAFA referee Akhona Makalima was the fourth official at her second match at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand on Monday, officiating in the clash between Germany and Morocco.
South African Makalima had already fulfilled the same role in Denmark’s 1-0 victory over China on Saturday and is lined up to go again when Canada faces the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.
Makalima is not the only official from the COSAFA region at the tournament and forms a trio with assistant referees Diana Chikotesha (Zambia) and Queency Victoire (Mauritius).
Meanwhile, Vincentia Amedome from Togo was the centre referee for the clash between Switzerland and the Philippines, where she was assisted by Carine Fomo (Cameroon) and Fanta Kone (Mali).
Bouchra Karboubi from Morocco was also in the middle when the U.S.A. beat Vietnam 3-0 along with her compatriot assistants Fatiha Jermoumi and Soukaina Hamdi.
Moroccan Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Adil Zourak has already seen action in the games between the Philippines and Switzerland and the upcoming clash when co-hosts New Zealand tackle the Philippines on Tuesday.
Finally, Fatiha Jermoumi from Morocco is also the offside VAR for that game.
