Johannesburg – Two men arrested for gunning down Doctor Michael Isabelle at his practice in Dobsonville appeared in court.

The National Prosecuting (NPA) said the accused 50-year-old Gordon Matwetwe Muningi and 48-year-old Tebogo Thutlwa made their first appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Doctor Isabelle was shot at his practice in Dobsonville on 26 February 2024, when three men arrived pretending to be seeking medical attention for their friend.

“Once inside the consultation room, they allegedly attacked Isabelle and a shootout ensued, where one of the assailants was shot and is said to have later died,” said NPA spokesperson in the Gauteng division, Phindi Mjonondwane.

“They then fled the scene using a vehicle belonging to the receptionist.”

She said the charred remains of the vehicle were later recovered in Alexandra.

“The accused were arrested by the Serious and Violent Crimes, Murder, and Robbery Unit of the South African Police Service on 21 March 2024.”

Muningi and Thutlwa were remanded in custody.

The case against them was adjourned to 2 April 2024 for investigations.
