Durban – The Sharks have registered their second successive win at Kingspark Stadium, where they outclassed Edinburgh 23-13 victory.

The Sharks’ dominant win on Saturday afternoon came a week after an impressive home victory against Alster.

Easter Saturday’s win was highlighted by a brilliant man-of-the-match performance by Sharks full-back Aphelele Fassi.

The 26-year-old Fassi opened the scoring with a brilliant individual effort.

Fassi ran from his own half skipping through the Edinburgh defense to put the Sharks ahead in the 20th minute.

Commenting on Fassi’s performance, Sharks Coach John Plumtree said: “He’s climbing right up there, and finding more consistency, in his game now… lovely to see. He’s a genuine attacking threat for us.”

Former Sharks captain 45-year-old John Smit likened the victorious team to a “Ferrari with no gearbox”.

The former Springbok skipper lamented how in his time as a player the Sharks had several stars but were lacking results to match the quality.

Replying to the Ferrari comparison, Coach Plumtree said: “I’m not sure if we’re a Ferrari… I think we were a Ferrari before you know, maybe a nice Mercedes or something but Ferrari is a bit over the top.”

The Durban side has not enjoyed much success in the current United Rugby Championship campaign, winning only three of the 13 games played this season.

In terms of silverware, The Challenge Cup remains the Sharks biggest hope for the season.

The Sharks sit in first place in their group having won three of the four games played.

Coach Plumtree believes something can be salvaged this season to revive the hopes of the Sharks faithful.

“We know we’ve let a lot of people down and we will try and win those people back. So, the only way we can do that is on the field so that’s what we’re trying to do,” the Sharks coach said.

The Sharks will look to build from their first back-to-back wins of the season.

They are now preparing for what is an important Challenge Cup Playoff encounter against Italian side Zebre this coming Saturday.
