A man whose car ran over spikes on the road was robbed and shot in the leg when his car came to a halt along Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Pretoria on Saturday night.

A paramedic who attended the scene in the Mamelodi area said the man was found sitting in his car bleeding from the gunshot wound.

Recounting events leading to the shooting the paramedic from Emer-G-Med told The Bulrushes that the shooting incident happened along the R102.

“The motorist was traveling along the R102 when he drove over spikes placed in the roadway, causing his tyres to puncture,” said the paramedic.

“When his vehicle came to a stop, he was approached by an unknown number of armed suspects who robbed him of his belongings, before shooting him in the leg.”

Paramedics stabilised the man on the scene and took him to hospital.

Police did not reveal the name of the wounded man. No arrests have been made yet, but investigations continue.
