Johannesburg – American Rhythm and Blues singer Johnny Gill – a former member of the world-famous New Edition – is heading for South Africa to serenade music lovers in just over a week.
The R&B singer and actor is billed to perform at the Pretoria Sunbet Arena on 11 October 2024 and Sun City Superbowl, North West, the next day.
Johnny Gill will share the stage with South African R&B star and former Lion’s King singer, Brian Themba.
Johnny Gill created a catalogue of R&B hits as a solo artist going back to 1983 before he joined New Edition.
In 1988, Johnny Gill joined New Edition as the lead singer in place of the supremely talented R&B star Bobby Brown, who had left the group.
Johnny Gill has received two Grammy Award nominations – one with New Edition and one as a solo artist.
A year later, Johnny Gill teamed up with Stacy Lattisaw as a duet to sing the hit song Where Do We Go From Here as well as One Love by George Howard.
Johnny Gill has also worked with other R&B greats including Keith Sweat and the late Gerald Levert.
The trio were group members of LSG (Levert, Sweat, Gill).
They released their debut album titled Levert Sweat Gill in 1997, which features the hit song My Body.
In 2003 the trio released their second and final studio album, LSG2.
Johnny Gill has released eight solo albums, three albums with New Edition, two albums with LSG, and one collaborative album with Stacy Lattisaw.
He sold over 15 million copies worldwide as a solo artist.
