Pretoria – China and South Africa are increasing cooperation between the two countries in police training, policing technology, and combating transnational crime.

In that regard, the SA Ministry of Police is hosting QI Yanjun, the Executive Vice Minister of Public Security of China.

QI Yanjun arrived in South Africa on Sunday, (10 November 2024).

Today, (Monday 11 November 2024), Executive Vice Minister QI Yanjun met with South Africa’s Deputy Ministers of Police Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria, where key aspects of increased cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

The Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, and other SAPS top management officials were also in attendance.

“The discussions centered on deepening the partnership in areas such as security and law enforcement, benchmarking initiatives as part of the cooperation agreement, training and capacity building, policing technology, legal and policy harmonisation, mutual strategies for combating transnational crime, and knowledge-sharing in policing practices,” the Ministry of Police said.

“Both parties emphasised the importance of a strong and collaborative approach to enhance safety and security within and beyond their borders.

“Executive Vice Minister QI Yanjun’s visit reflects the commitment of South Africa and China to foster stronger ties and pursue joint efforts in the area of public safety.”

As part of his stay, the Executive Vice Minister will also visit Soweto and Cape Town, where he will engage with local officials and explore community-based safety initiatives.

The Ministry of Police said it values this engagement as a significant step towards a strengthened and mutually beneficial partnership with the People’s Republic of China.
