Cape Town – Advocate Jeremy Gauntlett SC, KC, has retired under a cloud.
Facing historical sexual abuse accusations reported to both the Cape Bar and Johannesburg Bar, Advocate Gauntlett SC KC has retired from “The Bar”.
Commenting on the matter on Thursday, (23 January 2025), the Johannesburg Society of Advocates (JSA) said it received a letter written by Jeremy Gauntlett SC, KC in which he announced his retirement from the Bar.
“The JSA confirms that it indicated, yesterday in a statement issued to its members that the serious allegations regarding Gauntlett SC KC are being investigated by its Professional and Fees Committee,” a terse JSA statement said.
“This remains an ongoing process. No further comment will be issued at this time.
“We reiterate our request that all concerned accept that due process must follow.”
Earlier this month, on 16 January 2025, a senior anthropology lecturer, accused Advocate Gauntlett SC, KC, of sexually abusing him as a teenager.
