Johannesburg – Eskom has suspended load-shedding because the power utility says it has recovered sufficient reserves.
Daphne Mokwena, Eskom spokesperson, said Load-shedding was suspended early Sunday morning, (2 February 2025).
“Due to the sufficient replenishment of emergency reserves, load shedding was suspended today at 06:00 in the morning. Eskom will provide updates if any significant changes occur,” Mokwena said.
Eskom implemented Stage 3 load-shedding on Friday, (31 January 2025).
Explaining the reason for bringing back load-shedding after 10 months of uninterrupted electricity supply, Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane said: “Over the past seven days, we have experienced several breakdowns that require extended repair times”.
Marokane added: “This has necessitated the use of all our emergency reserves, which now need to be replenished over the weekend.
“This is a temporary setback, as load-shedding is largely behind us due to structural improvements in the generation fleet.”
Although the power utility announced that the Stage 3 load-shedding would be implemented from Friday, (31 January 2025), 17:00 to Sunday, (2 February 2025), midnight, Eskom suspended the power restrictions much earlier.
