Pretoria – Despite vehement denials, the United States of America continues to make false claims that South Africa was “doing very bad things. Expropriating private property”.
The false claims against South Africa appear to have been triggered by the recently enacted Expropriation Act.
Rubio announced on “X” that he was not attending the G20 summit in South Africa citing concerns over the country’s policies, including land reform and an “anti-American” stance.
Responding to Rubio’s stated stance, South Africa’s International Relations and Co-Operation Minister Ronald Lamola said: “There is no arbitrary dispossession of land/private property. This law is similar to the Eminent Domain Laws”.
Minister Lamola added: “We are a sovereign and democratic country committed to human dignity, equality, and rights, championing non-racialism and non-sexism while placing our constitution and the rule of law at the forefront.
“Solidarity/Ubuntu, promotes collective problem-solving.
“Our G20 Presidency, is not confined to just climate change but also equitable treatment for nations of the Global South, ensuring an equal global system for all.
“These are important principles that we remain open to pursue and engage the United States on.”
Rubio’s misinformed comments have come on the back of US President Donald Trump making similar claims that were devoid of any truth.
