Benoni – There is an outage affecting several areas in Benoni to enable Eskom to carry out urgent maintenance and repair work on a compromised overhead line pylon structure.

The City of Ekurhuleni said the was scheduled to take place on Sunday, (16 February 2025), from 09:00 to 17:00, affecting several areas in Benoni.

“Eskom has confirmed that power supply to Benoni’s intake points will be completely shut down during this period,” the City of Ekurhuleni said.

Affected areas include:

  • Benoni South industrial areas, Actonville, Wattville, Tamboville, Emandleni, The Stewards, Apex
  • Whole of Benoni CBD, Lakeview, Western Extension, Mackenzie Park, Dewaldt Hattingh Park, New Modder, Rynsoord, N12 Informal Settlement, Kleinfontein 67IR, Benoni 77IR, Westdene

“The City’s Energy Department will be on standby to monitor the restoration of power once Eskom has completed repairs,” the City of Ekurhuleni said.

“However, customers should note that power restoration is dependent on Eskom’s repair progress.

“Residents and businesses are advised to always treat all electrical appliances as live and take necessary precautions.

Additionally, all service requests related to electricity issues in the affected areas during the outage period will be automatically closed and only those unrelated to the planned outage will be attended to.

The City of Ekurhuleni said it will continue to engage with Eskom and provide updates through ward councillors and official communication channels should there be any changes to the planned outage.

“For further inquiries, residents can contact their ward councillors or follow the City’s official platforms,” said the City of Ekurhuleni.
