Johannesburg – The shoe was on the other foot for former prosecutor Siphokazi Magangana when she appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court facing charges of corruption and money laundering.

The former district court prosecutor who was previously stationed at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, and co-accused Yandisa Yolanda Jam Jam are accused of soliciting money from job seekers desperate for employment.

Magangana allegedly duped three persons in August 2022 into paying R10,000 each into Jam Jam’s bank account, ostensibly to secure permanent employment as prosecutors without being subjected to interviews.

When this promise was not fulfilled, the three persons laid complaints in May 2023 to the now Office for Ethics and Accountability of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), for investigation.

In December 2023, that unit recommended that the case be referred to the Labour Relations Unit of the NPA for disciplinary action, and that she be charged with corruption and fraud.

“Both accused remain in custody and will return to court on 20 June 2025 for a possible bail hearing,” NPA Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said on Tuesday, 17 June 2025.

“The public is warned not to fall prey to false promises, as legitimate NPA hiring processes require no payment of any kind.”

Mjonondwane said that as a public institution, the NPA follows official and transparent recruitment procedures to fill vacancies.

She said genuine vacancies are publicised on the NPA and Department of Public Service and Administration official websites.

Vacancies are also advertised on NPA social media platforms.
