Johannessburg – Football fans have been left in shock and disbelief after former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was charged with multiple rapes by the Metropolitan Police in the UK.
Reports from the UK on Friday, 4 July 2025, said the offences were reported to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, the Metropolitan Police said.
The charges reportedly involve three women with two counts of rape relating to one woman, three counts of rape in connection to a second woman and one count of sexual assault linked to a third woman.
BBC reports that the contract of the 32-year-old footballer, from Hertfordshire, ended with Arsenal on Monday after playing with the team since 2020.
“‘The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which started in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape,” reports BBC.
