Johannesburg – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have laid a complaint against Operation Dudula with the police regarding the death of a one-year-old child, who was prevented from getting medical assistance at a clinic.
The EFF said: “As a result of Operation Dudula’s unlawful blockade of healthcare facilities in Alexandra, a one-year-old child, Praise Banda, tragically lost his life on the 1st of August”.
The EFF said Operation Dudula continues to be stationed at clinics around Gauteng, turning away people, both locals and foreign nationals.
“This vigilante group has become law unto itself, and this cannot be allowed,” the EFF said.
Gauteng EFF Chairperson, Commissar Nkululeko Dunga, laid the complaint at Alexandra Police Station on Saturday, 20 September 2025, against Operation Dudula and all those complicit in this barbaric act.
“We demand that the police do their job in enforcing the law,” Dunga said.
“Operation Dudula has no mandate to harass people in clinics and hospitals. South Africa is a democratic and constitutional state, governed by the rule of law.
“We can’t be subjected to an apartheid like situation of the Pass Laws.”
The accusations first surfaced on 15 September 2025, when Newzroom Africa linked Operation Dudula to the child’s death after being denied medical care.
However, Operation Dudula, which prides itself as an anti-foreign national group, has rejected the accusations, saying none of its members were deployed at any medical facility on the day in question.
Operation Dudula has since demanded a retraction from Newzroom Africa.
