South African Weather Service Downgrades Alert Level In Gauteng From 9 To 6

Johannesburg – The South African Weather Services has downgraded the Level 9 warning in Gauteng and surrounds to Level 6.

SAWS predicts that from tonight, Sunday 16 November 2025, “A Level 6 warning is in effect for severe thunderstorms over northern Gauteng and the western parts of Limpopo, with a high risk of damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours”.

In the notice announcing the weather predictions, SAWS added: “B Level 4 warning extends across the north-eastern regions, including eastern Limpopo and Mpumalanga, with disruptive rain and flooding possible.  

“C. remains as disruptive rain. Please stay alert and avoid flooded areas.”

Main hazards are flooding and strong winds.

Meanwhile, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department has appealed to residents and road users to exercise extreme caution due to the continuing severe adverse weather conditions.

There were several reports of fallen trees in many streets across the city.
