Johannesburg – Tebogo Malaka, who was accused of offering a reporter a bribe to make a story of alleged graft go away, has resigned her position as Chief Executive of the Independent Development Trust (IDT).
Confirming the development on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, the IDT said Malaka’s resignation was with effect from the end of the month.
“The Board has accepted the resignation and confirms that Mr. Sfiso Nsibande, seconded from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), will continue to serve as acting chief executive to ensure organisational stability and continuity,” said Zimbini Hill, IDT Board Chairperson.
“In line with the standard governance and employment practice, the terms of Ms. Malaka’s departure remain confidential.
“The Board will now commence a formal process to appoint a persmanent Cheif executive officer.”
Malaka was on suspension after allegations of wrongdoing surfaced against her.
Malaka faces criminal charges for allegedly attempting to bribe Daily Maverick journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh with R60 000 in cash to suppress a story on corruption.
The August 2025 incident, captured on video, involved Malaka and spokesperson Phasha Makgolane allegedly offering a bribe amid probes into an R836-million oxygen plant tender scandal.
Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson filed a criminal complaint against the IDT CEO in that matter, alleging bribery and procurement fraud.
Malaka, suspended on full pay, denies the allegations against her.
She is set to resign on 31 January 2026, as investigations continue without arrests.
