Johannesburg – The Consulate General of Nigeria has named Emeka Clement Uzo as the person shot dead during an anti-drug campaign involving ActionSA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Xolani Khumalo, who also doubles as a TV host for the anti-drug programme Sizok’thola.

The deadly confrontation occurred at Windor East, Randburg, on Sunday, 8 February 2026, during the filming of a TV Sizok’thola episode.

Nigerian nationals living in Windsor East have since called for the arrest of Sizok’thola host Khumalo following the fatal shooting

Commenting on the deadly confrontation on Monday, 9 February 2026, ActionSA confirmed that “during an anti-drug operation yesterday, joined by ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Cllr Xolani Khumalo, a shooting incident occurred in which a Nigerian suspect, identified as being involved in drug trafficking, was shot.”

Responding to the tragedy, the Consulate General of Nigeria said it “condemns in the strongest terms the killing of one of its nationals,” adding that the “report of this incident has caused the family, the Nigerian community, and the Diplomatic Missions in South Africa much shock and pain”.

The Consulate said the unfortunate incident has raised questions over the safety of Nigerians and other foreigners in South Africa.

“It also raises questions about what seems to be a deliberate attempt by some elements to generalise and tag well-meaning, respectable Nigerians in the country as criminals,” the Consulate said.

“However, we are encouraged after extensive meetings and by the proactive investigations by the South African authorities.

“We have been assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

“Hence, we look forward to the outcome of the investigations.”

“Our position is that no matter what the allegations are, there are processes and steps to justice.”

The Consulate said all should be presumed innocent and granted a fair hearing in a court of law.

“No one should take the law into their own hands,” the Consulate stated.

“We condemn all forms of extrajudicial killings. All lives matter.

“This includes Nigerians.”

The Consulate said, while awaiting the findings of the ongoing investigations and the ultimate prosecution of the perpetrators, “we appeal to our nationals to remain calm and law-abiding” as they conduct their activities and go about their daily lives in South Africa.

The consulate extended its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

“While we pray for his soul to rest in peace, we are poised to continue to fulfill our mandate of overseeing their welfare and fair treatment of all Nigerians in the country,” the Consulate said.

Meanwhile, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department has denied being involved in the anti-drug campaign, while claiming that when their officers arrived on the scene, Khumalo and his group had already left.
