Johannesburg – The six suspects arrested for the fatal shooting of Kaizer Chief football star Luke Fleurs during a hijacking appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The 24-year-old Premiership soccer player was shot and killed during the hijacking of his car at a fuel station in Honeydew on Wednesday, (3 April 2024), at approximately 20:30.
The suspects – some in masks – were named as 26-year-old Ndumiso Moswane, 25-year-old Fernando Sive, 21-year-old Nhlakanipho Dlamini, 25-year-old Franky Xaba, 36-year-old Maredi Mphahlele, and 31-year-old Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu.
They were all arrested in Slovoville on Wednesday, (10 April 2024).
The six were charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms, possession of ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice.
All the accused were remanded in custody after their case was adjourned to 19 April 2024, to enable them to apply for legal representation with Legal Aid South Africa.
Allegations are that Fleurs was at a filling station with three of his friends when he was approached by two males armed with firearms that had alighted from a BMW.
While his friends were inside the shop at the filling station the gunmen removed Fleurs and another occupant from his car.
The hijackers immediately occupied the soccer player’s red VW Golf 8 GTI.
As they were driving off, Fleurs tried to grab the door and one of the hijackers fired at him.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have retired jersey number 26 in honour of Luke Fleurs.
