Africa’s economic recovery efforts from the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have received a major boost with the announcement that Saudi Arabia has come to the rescue.

Many countries in Africa have suffered massive job losses and economic downturns owing to lockdown restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.

So far – according to Africa CDC updates – the African continent has recorded a total of 4 721 048 positive cases of Covid-19 with 127 374 deaths.

“Saudi Arabia will support African countries with investments and loans worth about $1 billion this year to help their economies recover from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said on Tuesday.
