Johannesburg – The Department of Home Affairs has dismissed seven more officials following disciplinary processes into misconduct, bringing the total number of dismissals since July 2024 to 63.
Home Affairs Minister Dr. Leon Schreiber confirmed the action on Friday, 24 April 2026, noting that an additional 16 officials have been suspended as part of ongoing investigations, including those linked to findings from the Special Investigation Unit.
Since the formation of the Government of National Unity in July 2024, at least 95 misconduct cases have been initiated by the department, with 75 already finalised.
The department said this reflects its commitment to swift and decisive consequence management aimed at tackling corruption, maladministration, and unethical conduct.
Minister Schreiber said: “The decisive pace at which the department now processes disciplinary matters, resulting in ongoing dismissals and other disciplinary action, demonstrates our unwavering commitment to cleaning up the damage done to Home Affairs over many years”.
Minister Schreiber emphasised that the crackdown is part of broader efforts to restore integrity within Home Affairs, strengthen internal controls, and rebuild public trust.
He stated: “Our zero-tolerance approach does not rely on words – it is demonstrated in ongoing concrete action to rebuild the rule of law in a department that is fundamental to the functioning of our society.”
The minister added that while misconduct was being rooted out, officials dedicated to implementing the department’s digital transformation agenda will continue to be empowered and rewarded.
