Johannesburg – Twenty-seven-year-old Simiso Silomo Phakathi has been urged to hand himself over at the nearest police station after his live-in girlfriend, 37-year-old Jabulisile Josephina Tshabalala, was found stabbed to death in Orlando East, Soweto.
South African Police Service (SAPS) Spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Tshabalala was last seen alive on 7 August 2026.
“Her body was discovered on 13 August 2026 inside the back room where she had been residing with the suspect,” said Brigadier Mathe.
“She had allegedly been stabbed to death, and her body was found covered with blankets and clothes.”
The police spokesperson said a warrant of arrest has already been issued against Tshabalala’s live-in lover, who was 10 years younger than her.
“A J50 warrant of arrest for murder has been issued against Phakathi,” Brigadier Mathe said on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.
“The SAPS is issuing a firm warning to the suspect: hand yourself over to the police at the nearest police station without delay.
“There is nowhere to hide, and police will continue pursuing every lead until you are brought before a court of law.”
The suspect is considered dangerous.
Anyone who sees Phakathi or has information on his whereabouts is urged to immediately contact Warrant Officer Zwane on 082 455 8572 or report to the nearest police station.
SAPS also appeals to anyone who may have information that could assist investigators to come forward.
“Do not harbour or assist a wanted suspect. Information provided to the police could be critical in ensuring that justice is served,” said Brigadier Mathe.
“As the country marks Women’s Month, the SAPS reiterates that violence against women will not be tolerated.”
She said the SAPS was intensifying its fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), including the tracing and apprehension of suspects wanted in connection with crimes against women, children and vulnerable groups.
“Those responsible for such heinous crimes will be pursued and brought before the courts to face the full might of the law.”
