Legendary South African actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards, famous for her roles in Egoli and Genrations, has died at the age of 66.
Elysian Management said further details would be released after meeting with Surtie-Richard’s family.
Unconfirmed reports said she was found dead on Monday in a guest house in Cape Town, where she was filming an episode of Arendsvlei.
Admirers posted heartfelt messages on Twitter.
Top Gauteng radio station @5FM tweeted: “Rest in Power to Shaleen Surtie-Richards! A true legend who was an integral part of making South African television & theatre what it is today!”
Surtie-Richards is best known for her role in the long-running hit M-Net series Egoli: Place of Gold as Ester “Nenna” Willemse.
Other famous appearances in the soapies, included her role as ‘Mattie’ in Generations.
Surtie-Richards also starred in hit films such as Fiela Se Kind, Mama Jack, Treurgrond, and Vaselinetjie.
More recently, She played a leading role in the kykNet series Arendsvlei.
