Soccer Supremo Danny Jordaan has not responded to a seven-day ultimatum he was given last Thursday to accept mediation regarding allegations by Jennifer Ferguson that he raped her.

Responding to queries from The Bulrushes, Themba Masango #NotInMyName Secretary General on Thursday said Jordaan had not yet taken up the mediation offer.

Three years after Ferguson, former African National Congress MP and singer, laid a complaint of rape against Jordaan with the police, the matter remains unresolved.

Ferguson alleged in October 2017 that Jordaan raped her at a Gqeberha hotel room nearly 28 years ago.

Last week the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said it was concerned about the long delay in the finalisation of the matter.

The SAHRC wrote to Jordaan last Thursday and told him that Ferguson has again offered him an opportunity to engage in a mediated process outside of formal legal action.

“The complainant’s representatives are of the view that the parties should attempt, as far as possible, to address the issues at hand through a mediation process,” wrote the commission in its letter to Jordaan.

“The commission hereby invites you to participate in a mediatory process in an attempt to resolve the matter.”

“You are kindly requested to consider our recommendation for mediation and inform the commission of your decision within seven days of receipt hereof.”

#NotInMyName has weighed in on the matter as “the voice of the silent majority of this nation”.

Asked if Jordaan, the president of South African Football Association (SAFA), had responded to the invitation to engage in mediation, Masango said: “He has not responded yet … will let you know if and when he does”.

In November 2017, Jordaan’s attorney, Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi, released a statement in which he said: “Ms. Ferguson has alleged that Dr. Jordaan raped her 24 years ago. Dr. Jordaan denies that he raped Ms. Ferguson.”

The statement added: “We have accordingly, as his attorneys, advised Dr. Jordaan that he must not participate in a public discourse of the allegation made against him by Ms. Ferguson.”
