A deadly tragedy is unfolding in Horseshoe Road in Jacobs, Durban, where two burnt bodies have been recovered from a massive fire that engulfed a truck and several buildings.

The fire was thought to have started around 3 am on Sunday.

When emergency respondents ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene they found EMRS and Ethekwini Fire Department were already on the scene fighting the blaze.

“One person believed to be an adult male has been confirmed deceased and it is unknown at this stage if there are any other fatalities,” said ALS Paramedics Medical Services.

The Ethekwini Fire Department were still on the scene and fighting the blaze, which could be seen as far away as Glenwood.

Most people were evacuated from the area once the fire was brought under control.

Another body was found mid-morning, police said.

Hours later emergency respondents said another body had been recovered, bringing to three the number of fatalities so far.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
