A female prison warder at Paxton Correctional Services eMalahleni suspected of dealing in drugs has been caught in a swoop with an assortment of drugs including crystal meth, cocaine, and heroin worth more than R800 000.
Prison Warder Tinyiko Claudia Mathebula was arrested by elite crime busters – the Hawks – in an early morning swoop on Thursday.
Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said the 37-year-old warder was arrested by a team comprising the Hawks from Mpumalanga, a Middelburg dog unit (K9) and an eMalahleni police crime intelligence unit.
Acting on information and armed with a search warrant the team swooped on Mathebula’s house in eMalahleni (formerly Witbank).
Captain Sekgotodi said the law enforcement team found 2 474.4 grams of Crystal meth, 79.8 grams of cocaine, 1.6 grams of cocaine rock, 15.4 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of R870 000.
“Cash notes totalling R70 000 were found and seized for further investigation,” said Captain Sekgotodi.
Warder Mathebula was brought before the eMalahleni Magistrate Court on Thursday, where she was granted bail of R3 ?000.
Her case was postponed to 27 January 2022.
