An elderly couple died Thursday when their car was involved in a head-on collision at the intersection of Hendrik Potgieter and Doreen Roads in Roodepoort.
“On arrival on scene paramedics were met with mayhem as the twisted wreckage of a Volkswagen Citi Golf occupied the width of the roadway,” said Emer-G-Med.
“On closer inspection found two occupants, a man and a woman aged approximately eighty-five years old, still inside the wreckage.
“The passenger, a female, was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead, while the man was found in a critical condition.
“Cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts were attempted by advanced life support practitioners, however, they were unsuccessful and the man unfortunately died on the scene.”
Emer-G-Med said the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision escaped unharmed.
However, he was arrested by the police who were investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
