Three people who were on the road during curfew hours were critically injured in the middle of the night when a truck they were travelling in and a car were involved in a horrific T-Bone crash in Durban.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services said the collision at the intersection of Sydney Road and Rick Turner Road occurred at around 01:30 on Sunday.

South Africa remains at coronavirus Alert Level One which has mandatory protocols including a curfew between midnight and 04:00.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, where a truck and a car had collided they found that three people had sustained “serious to critical injuries”.

Two passengers in the truck were hurt, but the driver was unharmed.

The driver of the car was still entrapped inside. He was stabilised and freed by the Ethekwini Fire Department using the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment.

All the injured were taken to a nearby Durban hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and why those involved breached the curfew.
