A biker died after he was tossed in the air when his motorbike collided with a car along the M7, near Bellville, Durban.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services said the fatal crash occurred along the M7 Eastbound after Main Road, just before 3 pm.
“A motorbike and a light motor vehicle had collided on the roadway before the biker was thrown from his bike landing a couple of metres away,” said ALS Paramedics Medical Services.
“The biker believed to be in his 60’s sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.
“The driver of the motor vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.”
Police were on the scene and were investigating the events that led to the collision.
Earlier on Wednesday Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula revealed that: “Year-on-year, the number of fatalities has marginally declined by 3,1% from 848 in 2020 to 822 this year”.
Mbalula said so far during this festive season 2 639 drivers have been arrested for various offences including drunk driving, excessive speeding, and operating vehicles without a driving licence.
