Botswana’s 59-year-old President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi has tested positive for Covid-19.
in a statement, on Monday the Office of the President said it “wishes to inform members of the public that his excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, president of the republic of Bostwana is in mandatory self-isolation at his official residence.”
The Office of the President added: “This is necessitated by having tested positive for Covid-19 following routine testing for the virus.”
Masisi does not have any symptoms but will continue to receive close medical monitoring by his medical doctors.
During the period that Masisi is in self-isolation, vice president Slumber Tsogwane will act as president of Botswana.
