IN THE DOCK: Natasha Beyers
SHARE

A 32-year-old convicted female thief has been granted bail of R3 000 after she was arrested for fatally stabbing the father of her son.

Natasha Beyers, from Pretoria North, cut a lonely figure in the dock on Monday as she begged to be let out of jail.

Beyers is facing a charge of murder, for killing the father of her 7-year-old son.

It was Valentine’s Day – 14 February – when the couple got into an argument over a cigarette.

“It is alleged that on 14 February 2022, the couple got into an argument over a cigarette, the deceased assaulted Beyers and she stabbed him with a knife,” said Lumka Mahanjana, spokesperson NPA North Gauteng Regional: DPP Pretoria.

“The deceased then locked Beyers in the house and drove off.

“It is alleged that when he got to Fred Nicholson and Lambert Lee streets, he passed out. The car lost control, went off the road, and hit a tree.”

When police arrived on the scene, the man had already been attended to by paramedics and declared dead.

The police traced the home that he shared with Beyers.

She admitted to stabbing the father of her son and showed the police the knife she had used. She was promptly arrested.

In court, Beyers’ attorney read out an affidavit in which she admitted to stabbing the deceased.

Beyers, however, asked to be released on bail.

Prosecutor Nkhangweleni Phanuel Mudavhi told the court that the state had a strong case against the accused.

Even though Mudavhi argued that Beyers should not be granted bail because she used drugs and has two previous convictions of theft and perjury, the court granted her bail.

The matter was postponed to 24 March 2022, for further investigations.
