DEMANDING PERMANENT JOBS: Thousands of EPWP workers among them union members gather outside the Gauteng Department of Health to demand permanent jobs
SHARE

Thousands of workers from the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) gathered Thursday outside the Gauteng Department of Health.

Members of the National Union of Public Service & Allied Workers and other affected workers demanded “the permanent absorption of community health workers, and contracted EPWP workers”.

A day earlier, the Young Nurses Indaba Trade Union marched to the Gauteng Department of Health to protest against the decision not to renew temporary nursing posts.

However, the Gauteng Department of Health earlier this week said it would not be able to absorb some categories of temporary workers due to budgetary constraints.

Their contracts expire at the end of March 2022.
