SENTENCED: Jamaican Reggae Singer Jah Cure whose real name is Siccaturie Alcock has been slapped with a 6-year sentence for stabbing a promoter in Amsterdam

The reggae world sunk into shock and disappointment on Tuesday after a Dutch Court sentenced popular singer Jah Cure to Six years in prison for stabbing a music promoter.

Jah Cure, whose real name is Siccaturie Alcock, has been locked up in jail since the stabbing last year.

The Jamaican, who has served time before in his home country, was found guilty of stabbing 45-year-old event promoter Nicardo ‘Papa’ Blake on 1 October at Dam Square, in the city center of Amsterdam.

On Tuesday, the panel of three judges rejected Cure’s claim of self-defence but ruled in his favour that it was not a premeditated act of attempted murder.

“There is still too little evidence for a preconceived plan to take the victim’s life,” one judge said, reported the Telegraaf.

The court described the incident as an “apparently fairly trivial conflict” which Jah Cure “blew up and escalated”.

Reports from Amsterdam said the judges ruled that such a stabbing incident in broad daylight in a busy place such as Dam Square gives the victim and society “a great sense of insecurity”.

The 43-year-old reggae star has been sentenced to six years in prison in the Netherlands for attempted manslaughter.

Jah Cure can appeal the decision.
