Fired Daily Caller radio host Amber Athey has called out Cumulus Media, the parent company of radio station WMAL in the US, for firing her.
Athey, a former “O’Connor & Company” co-host, was fired last month, on 9 March, for mocking US Vice President Kamala Harris’ pantsuit.
Now employed as The Spectator‘s Washington editor, Athey this week revealed for the first time why the radio station’s vice president, Jeff Boden, and vice president of human resources, Kriston Fancellas, fired her.
She also claimed that her then bosses were “cowards” who caved in under the weight of criticism without giving her an opportunity to defend herself.
Athey was quoted in an online article on Daily Caller as saying, “they actually admitted that they didn’t really think that the tweet was racist”.
She added: “What really mattered to them was the perception of it being racist by these really bad-faith, dishonest, left-wing actors.”
