The Democratic Alliance (DA) has placed the party’s Johannesburg Region under administration “with immediate effect”.
A major reason for the move was the region’s poor performance during the 2021 campaign.
Other factors that were ventilated at the FedEx and Federal Council – which placed the region under administration – include internal factionalism, lack of performance by public representatives at all levels, and leadership conflict.
On Monday, the party’s top brass were told via a memo that FedEx was placing the Johannesburg Region under administration with immediate effect “until the issues identified are resolved”.
The memo said Deputy Chairperson of the DA Federal Council Thomas Walters has been appointed as the administrator and he has been provided with the terms of reference with concrete outcomes that need to be achieved.
“We call on all members, leadership, and public representatives in Johannesburg to provide Thomas Walters with their full cooperation in taking the Johannesburg Region forward,” said a memo sent to the DA Johannesburg Regional Executive Committee.
The unsigned memo announcing the placing of the Johannesburg Region under administration seen by The Bulrushes was attributed to DA Gauteng Provincial Leader Solly Msimanga and Fred Nel, DA Provincial Chairperson.
