At least six people died and 60 others were injured Sunday morning when their bus crashed off a bridge near the N3 Die Hoek Toll Plaza in Heidelberg.

ER24, Provincial Fire and EMS, and several other services arrived on the scene to find a large bus on its roof on the side of the road.

Further medical resources were called to the scene, including several medical helicopters to help assess, treat and transport the patients.

Rescue and Fire Services were still on the scene, attempting to free some patients who were trapped inside the bakkie.

Medics were treating the patients and providing the critically injured with advanced life support before they were transported to nearby hospitals.

It was the second multiple fatality bus crash in as many days.

On Saturday, as many as 16 people perished in a minibus taxi when it crashed into a truck that had initially overturned on the N3.

Initial reports said the Toyota Quantum minibus went under the truck causing a chain reaction, which resulted in a nine-car pile-up.

The minibus with 17 occupants was entrapped and caught alight with 16 passengers being burnt beyond recognition.

A seven-year-old boy in the minibus taxi survived. His entrapped mom squeezed him out through a window to safety.
