A passenger in the front seat of a minibus taxi suffered serious injuries and had to be freed using the “Jaws of Life” after a collision along the M25 just past the N2 Bridge in Avoca, Durban.

Netcare 911 said the crash occurred at about 7 am.

“Reports indicate that a minibus taxi and light delivery vehicle were involved in a collision,” Netcare 911 Spokesperson Shawn Herbst.

“Medics assessed the scene and found that a front passenger from the taxi was trapped in the taxi.”

Marshall Security, Ethekwini Fire and Rescue, Emer-G-Med, Durban Metropolitan Police and Greenwood Park SAPS were on the scene.

“The patient, an adult male had sustained serious injuries and was treated on scene while the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services used Hydraulic tools free him,” said Herbst.

“Once stabilised, the patient was transported to hospital for further care.”
