A man and a woman trapped in their car – that had became wedged under a bus after an evening rush-hour crash – were rescued using hydraulic equipment.

Narrating events that led to the spectacular rescue, Netcare 911 said paramedics responded to a collision on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Cape Town at about 18h20 Thursday .

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said paramedics found that a bus and car had collided.

“When medics arrived on scene they found two occupants, an adult male and adult female of the car trapped underneath the bus,” Herbst said.

“Western Cape Metro Rescue used hydraulic equipment to lift the bus off the car while medics treated and stabilised the injured.

“Once freed, both patients who had sustained minor to moderate injuries were transported by ambulance to hospital for further care.”
