Football fans all over the world are desperate to know the name of the English Premier League player arrested on rape allegations.
Like a cryptic puzzle, the fans only have a few clues to work on – the arrested footballer is 29 years old, an international player and he lives in North London.
The BBC is reporting that the player cannot be named due to legal reasons.
The footballer, who is said to be of international renown, is currently in police custody and is being questioned over the alleged rape which is said to have happened in June.
The London metropolitan police confirmed the arrest in a statement that read: On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to the police.
It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains.
The guessing game on Twitter started almost as soon as the police announced the arrest late Monday night.
Some suggested it could be either of Arsenal midfielders Thomas Partey or Granit Xhaka.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Son is also 29 and lives in the area where the suspect was arrested, but again the suggestion was not substantiated.
There was no evidence to support any of the suggestions.
Sky Sports News said late Tuesday that the Premier League footballer arrested in North London on suspicion of rape “has been further arrested on suspicion of two more incidents of rape against a different woman today, and subsequently released on bail”.
