Munsoft, a leader in the provision of municipal financial software and systems, has onboarded the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality.

The municipality is situated within the uThukela District, in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

it is the smallest of the three municipalities in the district, but makes up a third of its geographical area, serving close to 200 000 residents.

Executive Director Ndiafhi Rerani said: “I am satisfied that the Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality is set on a path to better audit outcomes and a brighter future. We have joined hands with the municipality to help it better service the region”.

Inkosi Langalibalele Executive Mayor Mduduzi Myeza said the partnership with Munsoft will deliver tangible benefits to the people of the region.

“A reliable and efficient financial management system is critical to effective delivery of services by any municipality,” said Myeza.

Amalgamated entity

The Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality was established through the amalgamation of the Imbabazane and uMtshezi Local Municipalities in 2016.

Before the amalgamation, the Imbabazane Local Municipality used Munsoft Financial Management System (FMS), while uMtshezi Local Municipality used a different service provider.

With uMtshezi being the bigger of the two, it was decided that the newly formed Inkosi Langalibalele would use the other provider’s FMS, but the company struggled to amalgamate the municipalities into one system under the new entity.

As a result, Munsoft – which offers a national standard for the uniform recording and classification of the municipal budget and financial information at a transactional level – was appointed by Inkosi Langalibalele.

The company said it successfully amalgamated the two different Financial Management Systems (FMS) into one.

Munsoft is the home-grown leader in the development, deployment and maintenance of municipal financial management software in South Africa.

The company provides financial management software and related services to more than 70 municipalities around Southern Africa.

Munsoft, together with the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, hosted an event on 29 July 2022 to celebrate the return of Munsoft to assist with the municipality’s FMS, which had proved to be a challenge in the past.

“Not only has Munsoft deployed a new system for the municipality, but we also provided training to its employees who will be using the system,” said Rerani.

“I’m happy to say that the partnership is showing promise and is very likely that Inkosi Langalibalele will be aided by our functional system to obtain clean audits in the coming years.”
