Zambian top footballer Enock Mwepu, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League has had to quit the game owing to a heart condition.
The 24-year-old was also captain of the Zambia national team and has a hereditary condition.
The midfielder has been diagnosed with a heart condition and doctors have advised him to call time on his promising football career.
Doctors warned the condition would put Mwepu at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event if he were to continue playing competitively.
Mwepu posted a message on Twitter thanking his club, fans, doctors, and his family for the support he has received in this trying time.
Mwepu said he would not be entirely lost to football as he intends to participate differently.
