Johannesburg – A female drug mule travelling from Brazil has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after she was caught trying to smuggle cocaine worth R1.4 million into South Africa.
Police officers attached to the Monitoring and Interception Section of the Gauteng Crime Intelligence arrested the 23-year-old woman on Saturday.
Unbeknownst to the suspect, who is a foreign national, SA police had been keeping an eye on her even before she arrived in the country.
“Intelligence information was gathered about the suspect who boarded a flight from Brazil to South Africa via Doha,” the police said.
“During the search police found 3.6 Kilograms of cocaine with an estimated value of R1.4 million.”
The arrested suspect will appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on drug trafficking charges.
