Durban – The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature on Friday called on law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their search for the gunmen who shot dead Prince Mbongiseni Zulu.
“We call upon all law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned and members of the community to cooperate and help the police bring the perpetrators to book,” said Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce.
Prince Mbongiseni from oSuthu was gunned down on Thursday evening in Nongoma. No arrests have been made yet.
Famously known as “uGudlane “or “umntwana uNandos“, Prince Mbongiseni was the third member of the royals from the Osuthu Traditional Council to be murdered.
Recently, Induna Cuphisa Ntuli was fatally shot along with three other men.
Before that, in September, Dumisani Khumalo, a close confidant of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, was assassinated in Nongoma.
Prince Mbongiseni was a former Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) MP who also represented KwaZulu-Natal in the National Council of Provinces.
At the time of his death, Prince Mbongiseni was an IFP Councillor in the Zululand District Municipality.
Paying tribute, Speaker Boyce said the Legislature mourns the passing of a leader of the Zulu Nation.
“We are saddened by the news of the passing of Umtwana uMbongiseni Zulu. We extend our condolences to His Majesty King MisuZulu KaZwelithini, his family, friends, Indlunkulu yaKwaZulu yonke, and his political party – the Inkatha Freedom Party,” said Boyce.
“We pray for them that may God give them strength and courage in this time of grief.
“Zulu was gunned down last night. We will remember Zulu for his role in managing the Zulu Royal Family affairs and as a smooth operator who was dedicated to protecting the throne.
“This act of criminality has left irreparable damage within the Zulu nation. We hope his family will find the strength to deal with this great loss.
“On behalf of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, we appreciate and are thankful for the lifetime of service given by Umtwana uMbongiseni Zulu, a dedicated and humble servant of the Zulu Nation.
“May His Soul Rest in Peace.”
