Johannesburg – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on Thursday marched along the N1 north towards Pretoria in protest against the imminent release of convicted murderer Polish national Janusz Walu?, who shot dead anti-apartheid hero Chris Hani nearly three decades ago.
Traffic along the N1, near the Mall of Africa in Midrand, came to a standstill.
Walu?, who was granted parole after serving about 25 years of the heinous crime, was expected to be released from Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Prison in Pretoria on Thursday.
The convicted murderer was said to be in the hospital section of the hospital recovering from a stabbing he suffered earlier this week.
EFF National Spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys said: We are matching to the chief justice office against the ruling of the conditional calls to release the racist murder of Chris Hani, so we are going to have a picket at the Chief Justice office and disrupt traffic there”.
The Joburg Metro Police Department has warned motorists to avoid the N1.
