Johannesburg – The search for Sheba the escaped tiger has ended with the big cat being shot dead.

Sheba was spotted Wednesday morning around 01H55 at the Arboretum Farm in Walkerville, Johannesburg South.

The alarm was raised after Sheba attacked and killed a domestic animal in the Walkers Fruit Farms area, where six families live.

Soon after escaping from a tampered enclosure at the weekend, Sheba attacked a 39-year-old man and killed a dog.

The man survived the attack and is recovering in hospital from his leg injuries.

Sheba later pounced on another dog.

The SPCA and the police have been on Sheba’s trail since she escaped.

By Wednesday, Sheba had moved during the night across the hills to the West side of Fruit Farms bringing her close to livestock and other residents in a more densely populated area.

Sheba attacked a pig before attempts to dart her were abandoned owing to the danger she posed.

She was sadly put down.
