Netcare 911 Spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the e-hailing taxi had been shot in a hi-jacking after picking up three adult male passengers.

The 28-year-old taxi driver was ordered to drive to a deserted location, where he was forced out of the car.

“It is believed that while trying to flee, the man was shot twice,” Herbst said.

“When medics arrived on the scene, they found the patient in a critical condition, lying in a pool of blood.

“The man was treated on scene by Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners.

“The patient’s condition rapidly deteriorated and a decision was made to rush the man to the nearest appropriate hospital for further care.”
