Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has warned against the watering of gardens, washing of cars and refilling of swimming pools to allow reservoirs to be replenished.

“Residents are discouraged from watering gardens, washing vehicles, cleaning driveways or patios and filling up swimming pools,” the City of Tshwane said Tuesday.

“‘Furthermore, residents are advised to refrain from storing water in bathtubs, buckets, or any other container – shortly after restoration – as this slows down the recovery process.”

The City of Tshwane said that it was observing a gradual recovery of its reservoirs.

However, the recovery process was being hampered by high-water consumption.

Reservoirs ran low last week on Friday after a power failure affected the Vlakfontein Reservoir that supplies the City of Tshwane.

“It has become common practice that after a few days of no water, consumption is usually high and this puts a strain on the recovery of the water network,” the city said.

Areas affected by the water outage include Mooikloof Reservoir, Grootfontein Reservoir, Eersterust Reservoir, and Mamelodi R1 & R3 Reservoir.
