Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has warned of possible dry taps owing to a power supply failure that affected Vlakfontein Reservoir, which supplies water to the city.

“This power failure has resulted in depletion and/or declining levels of other Rand Water reservoirs, namely Brakpan, Selcourt, Bronberg, Wildebeefontein and Stompiesfontein,” the City of Tshwane said on Saturday morning.

“Residents are therefore informed that challenges of low water pressure to no water will be experienced in most areas within Tshwane jurisdiction.”

Explaining the matter further, the City said: “Rand Water notified the City of Tshwane on Friday, (14 April 2023), that their Mapleton Booster Station experienced a power supply failure.

“The station is supplied from a City of Ekurhuleni substation. The incident affected Vlakfontein Reservoir that supplies the City of Tshwane.

“The cause of the power failure is being investigated by the water utility’s technicians who are on site.”

The water supply problems add to the misery for residents affected by electricity interruptions after seven pylons collapsed.
