Pretoria – The South African Navy announced on Monday that it was crisscrossing the country in search of potential divers.
The search for divers began on Monday, (24 April 2023), and continues until Tuesday, (30 May 2023).
“Divers are integral to any missions and operations of the SA Navy and their invaluable functions include among others, underwater and coastal reconnaissance, search and rescue, clearance diving, demolitions, and salvage operations,” said the South African Navy.
“This is not a regular SANDF recruitment drive but a specific targeted search which seeks to recruit diver candidates for the SA Navy.”
The following criteria will be applicable:
- Candidates should be South African citizens,
- Must be between 18 – 22 years of age and should have completed matric with pure mathematics.
- If older than 22 years they should have a tertiary qualification but be not older than 26 years.
Potential candidates are required to bring swimming costumes and physical training attire (Vest/T-shirt, shorts and running shoes) as they will be put through a selection process that will include physical training and water activities.
For water activities, they will be required to conduct a 300 metres freestyle swim, 50 metres snorkel swim, 50 metres swim with a diving mask full of water, 25 metres underwater swim and 50 metres weight-belt swim.
For physical activities, they will be required to conduct a 2,4km run in under 13 minutes, 40 push-ups, 50 sit-ups and 7 pull-ups.
Successful candidates will be subjected to the HR recruitment process and will form part of the 2024 Military Skills Development Skills Intake.
