Pietermaritzburg – Suspects Sbonelo Myeza, Mbulelo Mpofana, Mlungisi Ncalane, and Sibusiso Ncengwa on Tuesday appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court in connection with the murder of Umzimkhulu Councillor Sindiso Magaqa.

The former African National Congress Youth League secretary-general was shot and wounded in an ambush at Ibisi Village in July 2017. Two colleagues that he was with were also shot.

Magaqa succumbed to his wounds in a Durban hospital two months later.

The accused, who face charges that include conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of a firearm, all pleaded not guilty.
