SHARE

Durban – An elderly woman was shot and left critically wounded Wednesday evening at the corner of North Coast and Effingham Road in Briardene, Durban.

Netcare 911 said paramedics responded to a shooting at 17:45

“Reports indicate that an elderly female was shot in the right thigh while waiting on the side of the road for a bus,” said Netcare 911 Spokesperson Shawn Herbst.

“When medics arrived on the scene, they found the lady unresponsive on the floor, noting a large open wound as well as extensive blood loss.”

Marshall Security, Greenwood Park South African Police Service, and other emergency services were on the scene soon after the shooting.

“The woman was treated on scene by a Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner and once stabilised was transported to a hospital for further care.”

No arrests have been reported and it remained unclear if the woman was the target or a victim of a stray bullet.
